The State of Hazard Communication: OSHA and Beyond (10 Nov 2026)

Join us on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Navy League Building, Arlington, VA, for a presentation by Denese A. Deeds, CIH, FAIHA, SDSRP.

The State of Hazard Communication: OSHA and Beyond

Why are SDS for the same product sometimes different? Why can’t I use an EU SDS in my workplace? Can my supplier really refuse to disclose the composition of hazardous chemicals in their product? What is changing with HCS 2024? What really happens at the GHS subcommittee meetings? These are some of the questions this talk will address. Hazard communication is a foundational element of worker safety and health but many industrial hygienists do not trust the information on SDS. Let’s discuss why, where we can find hazard information on our own and how we encourage improvement in the quality of SDS. There will be plenty of time for your questions.

In that function she prepares SDS, labels and other hazard communication documents, provides training on hazard communication and dangerous goods classification and assists companies with overall chemical regulatory compliance. She has over 50 years in the field and is a recognized expert. She has lectured at the junior college level and has taught short courses on safety, industrial hygiene, hazard communication including US and international SDS and chemical labeling and the transportation of hazardous materials/dangerous goods.
